1982 — Michael Hardwick is arrested for when a police officer observes him with another man in his own bedroom in Georgia. The district attorney eventually drops the charges, but Hardwick decides to challenge the constitutionality of Georgia's law. In 1986 the Supreme Court will decide that states can treat certain acts of consensual as criminal acts, a decision not overturned until June of 2003.

2004 — Missouri voters stop beating their spouses long enough to overwhelmingly pass a discriminatory state constitutional amendment banning marriage for same-sex couples.
